Krista Shennum (she/her) conducts research and advocacy on the impacts of the climate crisis on human rights, including a focus on the mining, plastics, and fossil fuel industries. Prior to joining Climate Rights International, Krista was a Gruber Fellow with the Environment and Human Rights Division at Human Rights Watch, where her work centered on human rights harms associated with plastics and the global plastic waste trade.
She has also worked with grassroots advocates in 80 countries to support environmental defenders under attack and combat environmental abuses with the Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide. Krista is a director of Planting Change Foundation. She holds a Master of Environmental Management from the Yale School of the Environment and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon in Environmental Science and International Studies.
