Cara Schulte

Cara Schulte is a researcher at Climate Rights International and a fourth-year doctoral candidate at the University of California, Berkeley, where her work focuses on the intersection of extreme heat, health, and human rights. At Berkeley, she is a member of the Global Environmental Health Equity Lab and has received fellowships from the Human Rights Center, the Institute for South Asia Studies, the Bixby Center for Population, Health, and Sustainability, and the School of Public Health to support her research.

In addition to her academic work, Cara serves as a research assistant to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Climate Change and Human Rights and is a contributing scholar with the Sabin Center for Climate Law’s Global Network on Climate Litigation.

Prior to her doctoral studies, Cara spent five years at Human Rights Watch, where she worked on a range of environmental justice and human rights issues. She holds a BA and an MHS in Environmental Health Science from Johns Hopkins University and is a member of the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health.

Her research addresses climate change and human rights issues in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Indonesia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, and the Caribbean region.
