Ali Dayan Hasan is a part-time Senior Policy Advisor at Climate Rights International. He was previously Executive Director of Huqooq-e-Pakistan, the European Union’s flagship Human Rights Capacity Building and Training Program for the country (2019-22), and Senior Policy Advisor on Human Rights at the United Nations Development Programme (2016-18). In these capacities, he has worked extensively on human rights and climate change. In addition, Ali has specialized expertise in international human rights law, international humanitarian law, and human rights research and advocacy.
Ali previously served as Human Rights Watch’s Pakistan director and South Asia researcher between 2003 and 2014 and as senior editor at Pakistan’s premier political news magazine, Herald, between 1998 and 2003. He has been a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Human Rights, a Senior Fellow at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C., and a Research Fellow at the Leverhulme Changing Character of War Programme at the University of Oxford. Ali has a B.A. from the London School of Economics and a Master’s degree from St. Antony’s College, Oxford.
