Neshan Gunasekera’s professional experience includes engagements with government, non-government, bilateral, and multilateral sectors, and he is a former member of the international civil service. Neshan has a background in international law, human rights, international relations, program and project management and he has worked to promote environmental considerations within the humanitarian-peace-development nexus.
In 2020, he was recognized for his continuous work over decades for Justice, Peace, and Sustainable Development, especially in South Asia and Sri Lanka, by being awarded the H.E. Judge C.G. Weeramantry International Justice Award.
He is a member of several organizations, including the Ecological Law and Governance Association, World Commission on Environmental Law, IUCN, International Association of Lawyers Against Nuclear Arms, Co-Chair of the Earth Trusteeship Working Group, and Councilor of the World Future Council.
